When I started this blog a few months ago, I thought I would focus primarily on reviews of great places in the Los Angeles area to take kids to let them explore and discover nature and the natural world.
But once I got started, I realized there is plenty to learn and discover about nature right in your own backyard. And the best part is, most of that type of nature play is 100 percent FREE!
I’m having too much fun now and won’t stop providing the sort of content I’ve been sharing so far; it’s just time to add my nature-inspired adventure reviews to the mix.
The idea is simple: Share my experiences of local nature outings I take with my kids – everything from trips to zoos and aquariums to visits to hands-on museums and gardens, parks and trails.
Most of the time these trips are in or around Southern California, but we do are fair share of traveling, so don’t be surprised if you encounter a review of an aquarium in Las Vegas or a zoo in Honolulu.
What will these reviews be like? My goal is to provide you with an honest account of our family’s experiences. I’ll include an overview of the places we visit, what we like and don’t like, what we’d do differently in the future and how to make the most of your visit should you decide to go.
I’m hoping to include at least two reviews each month; maybe more if I figure out when to sneak in all this writing! And a new, much more functional design is coming soon.
Keep in mind that in most cases, my opinions will be based on a single visit, which means that I’m no expert on any particular activity – just a mom looking to connect her kids with nature wherever and whenever possible.
As always, I welcome your thoughts and feedback and look forward to hearing what places you’d like me to write about. If you’ve got tips of your own to share, please feel free to let me know.
First up for review next week: America’s Teaching Zoo in Moorpark, CA.

I grew up in Simi and never went to the Moorpark Zoo. How sad is that? I look forward to the review!

I grew up very close to Moorpark and never went to the zoo! I even took classes at Moorpark Community College when I was in high school (and the zoo is connect to the college). I'm looking forward to reading your review. Maybe it will inspire me to take my kids there next time we are in So. Cal. visiting family.
