The National Audubon Society and Toyota invite you to exit the highway and spend time in nature this summer. In fact, if you make a pledge to head outdoors, you could win a 2013 Toyota Prius v.
The idea behind the Exit the Highway campaign is to make people aware of the many “off the beaten path” hidden gems in nature that you might not know about – many of which lie just off a highway near you. You know, the kind of spots we visit here in Los Angeles and beyond when we hit the road on our nature travels.
To make the pledge, you’ll be asked to provide your email address and zip code. Earn extra entries when you share photos, stories and nature destinations with others.

Now comes the extra special part just for readers of GoExploreNature
Share one of your favorite local nature spots and you could win a $50 Visa gift card. Pretty sweet, huh?
Don’t worry! Adding a favorite nature spot to the Exit the Highway map is simple. It took me less than 5 minutes – and I didn’t have to sign my life away to do so.
To add a favorite nature spot, you’ll need to provide your name, email address, then the name and location of your destination. You can include a description of up to 140 characters for each nature spot you add, even a photo if you like.
To enter for your chance to win a $50 Visa gift card:
- Head over to the “Nature Near You” map,
- Add a favorite place in nature to the map,
- Come back here & leave a comment including the location you added to the map, your name & your email address.
A few more things to know about this giveaway:
- This giveaway will run through midnight PST on Sun., July 14, 2013.
- You must include an email address with your comment. Entries without an email address will not be included.
- This giveaway is open to U.S. residents only.
- The winners will be chosen using the nifty random number generator at random.org.
- Winners will have 24 hours to reply to my notification. If I don’t hear back after that, I’ll pick another winner.
Note: I am not affiliated with the Exit the Highway program in any way. I was offered the chance to give away a $50 gift card to one of you in exchange for sharing details about the program here. You can read my disclosure policy for more information.

It is so awesome. My fourth child will be attending there this fall. Even when it's way below zero they go outside and build snow shelters. They snowshoe and cross country ski.
