From the rows and rows of fruits, vegetables, flowers and more, to the chance to meet local farmers face-to-face, farmers’ markets make great destinations for outdoor family fun. Not to mention that your kids are likely to see all kinds of foods they won’t find in the grocery store.

Here are just a few ideas for fun when you visit a farmers’ market:
- Name the foods you see. Are these the same foods you see in the grocery store?
- Talk to real farmers!
- Discover which fruits and vegetables are in season. Why do some foods grow during fall but not spring or summer?
- Go on a farmers’ market scavenger hunt.
- Try at least one new fruit and/or vegetable.
- Let your child buy his or her own foods (depending on age, of course).
- Cook the food you buy with your kids.

Our farmers market just ended. Very sad. Almost makes me wish I lived somewhere warm where veggies can be grown year round.
