North America: A World in One Continent

by Debi Huang

This spring, The Little Explorer and I watched the seven-part Discovery Channel series, North America. To say it was amazing, breathtaking and educational would be an understatement. Which means we were both quite excited to take a look at the series’ companion book, North America: A World in One Continent.

North America: A World in One Continent

The book is written by renowned nature producer Huw Cordey and explores the wonders of North America through more than 250 gorgeous, full-color photographs and essays. It follows the course the Discovery Channel team took in discovering the heart of North America – the places, natural events, and animal and plant life that give it its unique character.

With more than 150,000 miles of coastline, North America is home to 24 countries and almost 528 million people who share it with hundreds of thousands of species of mammals, birds, insects and plants. If you think you know this place, think again. Through both words and photographs, the book recaptures the stories shared in the series – plus more.

Book Review: North America

What we like about North America: A World in One Continent:

  • The full-page color photographs are simply phenomenal
  • Provides a wealth of information about North America (Trust me, even if you live here, there is plenty left to discover!)
  • Interesting facts are highlighted throughout
  • Some short snippets of text are simple enough for even young kids to digest
  • Offers behind-the-scenes info about the making of the series from those who were there

What’s not necessarily kid friendly:

  • This is a large, heavy coffee table book – not something for light bedtime reading
  • The essays are a little beyond the understanding and/or interest of young readers
  • You can’t power through this tome in a single sitting

North America: A World in One Continent retails for $30.

Note: I received a free copy of North America: A World in One Continent in exchange for providing my honest review with you. Read my full disclosure policy for more information.

It's always nice to share.

Huw Cordey is a great name! We haven't watched the North America series, yet, but it sounds like it is right up our alley!
