This One’s for Dad

by Debi Huang

Me & dad in my dreamy childhood backyard

I’m sure most of you assume I started this blog because I spent a lot of time outside with my kids exploring nature.

Truth is, I’m actually a bit of a convert.

This blog started as an excuse for me to spend more time connecting with nature – as a way to heal from the loss of my dad. This week marks the second anniversary of his passing and I gotta admit, I can’t believe it’s gone by so fast.

I am thankful for the lessons from nature my dad shared with me. And I’m honored to be able to pass on his compassion and respect for this planet to my kids.

But I’m also thankful that during this stressful, sad, exhausting and transformative two years, you have been beside me. I’ve come here to write, to share, to reflect and to connect. With nature, yes. But with each of you, too.

And I just wanted to say thanks.

Thank you for stopping by every once in a while to see what we’re up to. Thanks for leaving a comment now and again. And thank you for showing up every day to lend support to my ideas or to say you’ve been inspired to head out the door.

You’ll never know just how much it’s meant.

While this isn’t an official blog anniversary, I still thought it might be fun to share with you some of your favorite posts since this blog began in September of 2009:

  • 50 Ways to Explore Nature in Your Own Backyard
  • Fun Friday: Winter Nature Scavenger Hunt
  • Fun Friday: Build a Fairy House
  • Fun Friday: Spring Nature Scavenger Hunt

And some of mine:

  • A Kid’s Take on Getting His 15 Minutes Outside
  • How to Make Hiking Fun for Kids
  • Fun Friday: Make Mudcakes
  • Lessons From Nature: Raising Our Adopted Caterpillars

Don’t go anywhere. I’m looking forward to sharing many more nature adventures with you.

It's always nice to share.
