It’s Day 6 of our 31 Days of Backyard Nature Fun and today we’re getting crafty. Creating items from nature can be a great source of inspiration for imaginary play.
Day 6: Make nature wands.
Every budding princess, fairy, magician and/or sorcerer needs a magic wand. We think one decorated with items from nature has extra-special magic powers.
To make your own nature wand, head outside. Then:
- Search for a good stick to use as your wand.
- Wrap some tape around your stick (masking paint, painter’s tape or duct tape work well).
- Go for a walk and stick small natural items onto your stick. Some ideas are leaves, twigs, shells, feathers and seeds. (Our one rule when picking items for our nature wands was that they had to be things already on the ground.)
Once your nature wands are made, have fun seeing what magical powers your little ones dream up for them. Ours were dueling ninja swords one day; magic fairy wands the next.
