Welcome to Day 7 of this month’s 31 Days of Backyard Nature Fun. I hope you’ve enjoyed the first week. There are plenty more great ideas coming up all month, so you’d better stick around!
This week, The Big Explorer heads back to school after a long winter break. Which means we’ve got plenty of demands on our time. What’s one way we’ll connect with nature now that school’s back in session?
Day 7: Walk to school.
Twice a week since school started last August, The Big Explorer and I have been walking to school. It’s an easy way to spend time outside without even thinking about it – no matter what the weather. And even in our very urban neighborhood, there are opportunities for connecting with nature around every corner.
Sometimes we talk to the birds; other times we check out cool cloud formations or take a close look at a spider web. We always allow for time to stop and wander along the way.
Don’t live close enough to walk to school? Park your car a few blocks away from campus and walk from there. Check out more tips for walking to school over on ActiveKidsClub.com.
