Welcome to Day 15 of 31 Days of Backyard Nature Fun, a month-long series offering simple ways to get outside exploring the natural world. To catch up on what we’ve been up to, you might want to head here.
I can just hear you now: “Debi, what are you thinking? There’s no color to see during winter!” That’s what I used to think, too. Until I started paying closer attention (thanks to The Explorers).
You see, nature’s colors don’t just come in the bright shades of spring. They also come in various shades of winter like brown, white and gray.
Your challenge today is to discover just how many different colors winter has on display.
Day 15: Take a color walk.
How you select the colors to look for on your color walk is entirely up to you and your explorer.
One option is to bring along some paint chips or favorite crayons and try to “match” the colors to natural items in your yard or neighborhood.
Another option is to search for as many items as you can find that are one color. In this case, you can focus on shades of colors, which is a perfect challenge for winter.
Remember to focus your search on things from nature. That includes not just the trees, leaves and landscapes, but birds, butterflies, bugs and other animals, too. And don’t forget: white is a color!
Just joining us? Catch up on what we’re up to at 31 Days of Backyard Nature Fun.

Enjoy the search!

We used to do that, but haven't for awhile. Even in our white and brown world I bet we could find some color. Thanks for the reminder.

And kids are often much better than adults at taking notice of the little things, like a spot of color on an otherwise dreary winter morning.

Yes, Debi, very true, colour is around all year round and it's a good thing to get kids taking notice of it. xxxxx
