Welcome to Day 19 of 31 Days of Backyard Nature Fun, a month-long series offering simple ways to get outside exploring the natural world. To see activities from earlier this month, head here.
Have you ever wondered what winter looks like through the eyes of your child? One way to find out is to head outside with a camera in hand and snap away.
Don’t worry if your little explorer isn’t a professional photog or sometimes needs your help to snap a shot. The point is to get outside exploring! (You can get a few simple nature photography tips for kids here if you’re interested.)
Day 19: Go on a nature photo hunt.
Today’s assignment: Head outside with a camera and take pictures of whatever your explorer finds inspiring. Your front or backyard is the perfect place to start. The only rule is that kids snap shots of nature. (Older kids may want to shoot videos, too.)
If your child needs a little encouragement, you could offer some suggestions: take pictures of items that are a certain color, size or shape. Or take pictures of trees or animals. (We’re also having fun with the winter nature photo scavenger hunt at the moment.)
Don’t forget to download the pictures from your nature photo hunt as soon as you can – kids love to see their work. You might even want to print out a few favorites for your child’s nature journal or just to put on the wall.
