Welcome to Day 27 of 31 Days of Backyard Nature Fun, a month-long series offering simple ways to get outside exploring the natural world. To see activities from earlier this month, head here.
I love it when art and nature mix. Add in kids and the possibilities for fun and creativity are pretty much endless.
The good news is that nature provides all the materials you need to create your own masterpiece. That’s what Melissa from adventuretykes.com discovered when she first took her little explorer on a nature art walk. Melissa has kindly agreed to share more about her adventure here.
A little background on Melissa: She was a stay-at-home mom until March 2012 when she and her photographer husband opened the Edge Gallery in Moab, UT. Melissa now spends her time working the gallery, motivating and inspiring parents to get outside with their tykes over at adventuretykes.com and raising their 3.5-year-old son J-Man. She is an avid runner, hiker, amateur chef, wine lover and goof.
Day 27: Go on a nature art walk.
Getting your tyke engaged in nature and the outdoors can sometimes be a challenge. I’m always looking for creative ways that are not only fun but can be a learning experience, too. When my friend told me about an activity her husband did with their toddler, I stole the idea right away. It was brilliant, creative and sounded like so much fun.
What am I talking about? I call it an art walk. Give your tyke some glue and either paper or cardboard and travel around the neighborhood and let them create a piece of art from natural objects. Sound like fun? It is, and you can do it in any season and pretty much anywhere.
For more details on taking a nature art walk, head over to Adventure Tykes.
