Fun Friday: Build a Dam

by Debi Huang

Since we’ve been talking a lot about water play around here this month, I thought I’d share one of The Big Explorers’ favorite summertime activities. During our recent adventures on the river, he had one goal: To build a dam.

Summer Nature Fun: Build a Dam

All that’s required to build a dam is moving water and something to block that water – like sticks or rocks. In our case, The Big Explorer used river rocks of all sizes to try to hold back the rushing water.

But you don’t necessarily need access to a river to build a dam.
Your little one can dig the path of a river in a dirt or sand play area in your own backyard. Then use sticks or rocks to try to block the river in one area. Add water and see what happens!

It's always nice to share.

We are experts at this one! Not in the sense that our dams work, but in the sense that we build a lot of them 🙂 There is nothing better than moving rocks around in a river or creek. Great photo of the Big Explorer!
